El Paso Water Utilities Describes Areas Of Town Where Reservoirs Are Below Adequate Levels

El Paso continues its mandatory water restrictions on Monday to raise water levels at El Paso Water Utilities reservoirs.

Nick Costanzo, EPWU’s vice president of business operations and finance, said on ABC-7 Xtra that 15 reservoirs had five feet or less of water Saturday, leading to the restrictions. Costanzo said there were now seven reservoirs that have five feet of water or less. EPWU has 55 reservoirs.

Costanzo said late Sunday night that if the city tightens up its water use, it’s possible everyone could get through the crisis within 24 hours.

“We have problems in the Downtown, north-central area, Kern Place, UTEP and also in the far East El Paso,” Costanzo said of the reservoirs that need their levels raised. “Those are the hot pockets right now. We need to get the reservoirs up. We have one reservoir, the Sunset reservoir that’s at one foot right now and it needs to be above five feet. The Woods reservoir below Rim Road should have 20 foot level of waer, 20 million gallons. It’s less than one foot. If we can get that up we can move water to the East Side and Lower Valley area.”
