El Paso Playhouse’s Opening Delayed Due To Weather-Related Problems
The show will not go on – at least not as planned.
Last week’s winter storm forced the El Paso Playhouse to push back its season’s opening night by one week.
“It was, well, kind of expected,” said board member, Erika Moeller. “I mean this building is from 1950.”
The building on Montana has set the stage for countless plays for the non-profit over the years, but burst pipes left soaked carpets and ceiling tiles falling apart. With no running water or working bathroom, members and actors decided to delay opening night.
“We did consider the option of moving back our entire season,” said board member, Mario Rodriguez. “It was going to take too much to change all of our flyers and our programs.”
The decision will no doubt hurt the non-profit which relies heavily on community donations and revenue generated from the shows.
“It’s three days, three performances that we’re not going to have,” Rodriguez said. “We’re not going to get that income.”
