3-Year-Old Las Cruces Girl Dies After Being Run Over By Accident

Jasmine Bejarano, 3, of Las Cruces, was pronounced dead at University Medical Center in El Paso, TX at 6:30 pm Thursday evening, according to Las Cruces Police officials.

No charges are being filed at this time against the father, Daniel Bejarano, 30, of Las Cruces.

Daniel Bejarano’s 1988 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck began rolling forward as he was exiting the vehicle at the AutoZone store. Daniel Bejarano had left the engine running for a transmission fluid check.

Police Investigators believe that when he jumped back into the truck his foot hit the accelerator instead of the brake causing the truck to lunge forward. Jasmine Bejarano had walked in front of the truck when this occurred and was struck by the vehicle. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident, police said.

The incident appears to be accidental in nature at this time, however, Las Cruces Police continue to investigate this matter.
