El Paso Police Say Man Tried To Bribe Officer After He Illegally Crossed Street

El Paso Police have charged a man with bribery arising out of an alleged pedestrian violation incident.

Police say that Kyle Lamar Thompson, 28, of Fort Bliss, had committed a pedestrian violation in the 100 S. Durango at 11:50 p.m., Thursday.

Thompson was stopped along with several others and their identification was obtained by the officer. As the officer was issuing citations to the individuals stopped, another violation occurred in the roadway and when the officer went to address that issue, Thompson took his identification, and left the area running, according to police.

The officer saw Thompson running towards city hall and caught Thompson in a parking lot and he was placed under arrest and transported to 100 S. Durango. Thompson, on the way back to 100 S. Durango explained to the officer that this was gong to ruin his career and told the officer, “I’ll pay ya double if you let me go,” according to police.

Thompson was charged with Escape, Evading Arrest, Walking against Pedestrian Control Device, and Bribery. He was booked on total bonds of $16,581.
