Girl Scout Cookie Sales Affected Nationwide
The governing body of the Girl Scouts asked several troops to make some changes to its selling methods this cookie season in order to save money in a slow economy.
Twelve troops across the nation are now trying out a new tactic by offering only six varieties of cookie instead of the eight that are available.
Some troops have also increased the price, selling them at $4 a box.
The CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest said to ABC-7, that is not the case here.
“Our cookie sales have been very strong,” said Diane Flanagan. “The problem is, we don’t have enough Girl Scouts to reach every customer.”
Flanagan told ABC-7 the organization is well on its way to meeting its sales goal of 75,000 boxes before the selling season ends next month. The CEO said the girls had already sold more than 60,000 boxes of all eight varieties available, including the new cookies, “Thanks-a-Lot” and “Shout Outs.” Also, prices have not increased from the $3.50 at which they are currently sold.
Customers perusing the boxes of cookies at a stand set up outside the Walgreens on McRae Blvd. are more than willing to support the organization that helps teach girls about sales and money management.
“I probably would have bought Chips Ahoy for a lot more than this,” said Mark Ortega, a first-time Girl Scout cookie customer.
Sales are running now through March 13.
