Las Cruces Police Continue Searching For Robber Who Caused School Lock Downs

Las Cruces Police are currently looking for a suspect who discharged a handgun during a burglary attempt in the Four Hills neighborhood.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a black bandana and baseball cap. The man is believed to armed with a handgun.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, Las Cruces Police were called to the 3200 block of Eagle Ridge Drive , near Highway 70 and north Roadrunner Parkway , after a homeowner interrupted a burglary attempt. The suspect was said to have fired at least one round from a handgun.

Meanwhile nearby public schools and daycares in the area of Northrise drive and Roadrunner Parkway were placed on temporary lockdown as officers searched for the suspect. The lock down was lifted at about 12:30 p.m.

Onate High School, Sonoma Ranch elementary, Highland Elementary, Jornada Elementary, Desert Hills elementary, Camino Real Middle School and two days cares were on lock down. No injuries have been reported.

Motorists in that area are asked to not provide rides to pedestrians. Homeowners are encouraged to lock their doors and remain inside until the suspect is located.

Anyone with information on the identity, or whereabouts, of the suspect is asked to call 911 immediately.
