West El Paso Motorcycle Crash Kills 1

Police say one man is dead after an early-morning motorcycle crash in the 5000 block of North Mesa Street near Argonaut Drive on Saturday.

The crash occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

An investigation by the El Paso Police Department revealed the blue Suzuki motorcycle, which was headed southbound on Mesa Street, was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the driver was trying to negotiate a curve in the roadway at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle drove over a raised curb, striking several steel fence posts and a traffic sign.

Police said the victim died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is only described as a man.

This is the 14th traffic related fatality for El Paso in 2011.
