Driving I-10 Reveals Texas’ Diversity And Size

The Austin American-Statesman’s Mike Leggett drove the length of Texas on I-10 from the border of Louisiana to the border of New Mexico.

He was able to get into El Paso just in time to catch one of its famous sunsets.

“I roll into and straight through town until I get to the state line. Three days, just about 900 miles, a couple of honey buns and a dozen diet Dr Peppers since I left Louisiana,” he wrote. “From here, the Pacific Ocean is closer than Louisiana. Climbing up into the Franklin Mountains, I find a lonesome spot to watch the sun go down in Mexico. The lights come on in Juarez across the Rio Grande. Tomorrow I’ll put the river on my right and sprint more than 500 miles back to the Hill Country. Tonight, I’d just like to see a shooting star.”
