Update: Police Identify Fort Bliss Soldiers In Sunday’s Deadly Shooting

Police have released the identities of the three victims of Sunday’s shooting that left one Fort Bliss dead and two others hospitalized.

According to police, 21-year-old Damien Bailey died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The second victim, 21-year-old Preston Brown, was shot in the head and remains in critical condition at University Medical Center. The third victim, 21-year-old Tyrone Head was shot in the upper chest and transported to William Beaumont Army Medical Center and was released after he received medical treatment.

29-year-old Craig Allen Graham, the suspected gunman, is a veteran who recently got out of the Marine Corps. He was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. Graham was booked into the El Paso County Jail, with bond set at $650,000.

Police said all three victims were 21-year-old Fort Bliss soldiers.

The shooting took place early Sunday outside Fusion Nightclub in Central El Paso. Police responded to a call of shots fired shortly after 2 a.m. at 4304 Dyer Street. Police said someone fired shots into the air and shortly after, they allege Graham turned his own gun at the three soldiers.

Police said the investigation in ongoing to determine a motive or events that led up the shooting, thus the mugshot of Graham, the suspected shooter, will not be released until police are confident it will not interfere with their investigation.

ABC-7 found a Facebook page belonging to the soldier who was killed, Damien Bailey. Fort Bliss officials said Bailey was a private. His profile says he was an Apache helicopter mechanic originally from North Carolina.

Post officials said they will soon set a date for a memorial ceremony in Bailey’s honor. Commanding Major General Dana Pittard issued the following statement:

“We are extremely saddened at the very tragic and unnecessary loss of one of our 1st Armored Division and Team Bliss Soldiers. We are working closely with the El Paso Police Department in their ongoing investigation, and their efforts to bring the individual(s) involved to justice. We are keeping his family, friends and fellow Soldiers in our thoughts and prayers, who are dealing with the tragic loss.”

A Facebook page belonging to Preston Brown, who is recovering at UMC, shows pictures of Brown during a recent deployment to Iraq. His mother posted a status update on her own Facebook profile saying his prognosis is not good and urging loved ones to pray for his recovery.
