Mesilla Valley Animal Services Offering Free Cats In June

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley is celebrating Adopt-A-Cat Month with free adult cat adoptions through the end of June.

Millions of cats end up in shelters nationwide each year, including 5,526 that went through the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley last year, according to shelter director Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock. The month-long free adoption special is aimed at reducing the euthanasia rate in Doa Ana County and also to reduce the wait times of adoptable cats to be placed in good homes, according to a news release.

“We have cats of every breed, age and personality waiting for their forever homes,” Vesco-Mock said in a news release. “If you’re looking for a younger, frisky cat, or one that is mature and mellow, we’ve got a cat with the perfect disposition for your family.”

The adoption center is open seven days a week and the staff can help with advice on litter box training and how to introduce a new cat to one already living in your home.

Adoptions can also be done through several off-site adoption centers, including Petco on Lohman and Pets Barn on Valley Drive.

All adoptions through the shelter include a spay or neuter surgery, all appropriate vaccines and virus testing, a de-worming treatment, microchip, and City of Las Cruces licensing, if needed.
