NUMBER-ONE CAMPAIGN FOCUS: Advocating a culturegeared for learning in aworkenvironment whichpromotes pleasant conditions; where teachers experience the opportunity to properly exercise the art of teaching; where all staff is orientated about the need for strict compliance withoperating policy as promulgated by higher authority — such orientation supporting the idea that byfull compliance one gainsability to provide meaningfulfeedback that is necessary to promote change; to ‘level the playing field between student-to-student by having only in-school, school developed activities (particularly in the info tech area) as methodsfor teaching;to promote an atmostphere that is candidwhich requires frequent evaluation of all operations of the district, immediated feedback,and praise/correction; and, be available to my constituency, the students, staff, and public in general.

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM YOUR OPPONENTS?I am a retired senior enlisted soldier; a retired school teacher; retires mental health administrator; retired business owner — resturrant and contractor (building trades). I have the following higher education degrees: MA — Health Services Management; BS –Criminal Justice; BS– Education (Special Ed., PK – 12 & Sociology 6 –12); AAS — Law Enforcement — I have had the opportunity to work in all degree areas. I also have TEACertification, EducationMid – Management Special Ed. PK– 12 & Sociology 6 — 12; US Army Diploma — Missile Electronic Meteriel Maintenance; US Army — attened every Army branch non-residence service school completing more than 350 credit hours; and, Certification — Massage Therapy. I have a continuous record of giving back to the community; both, in the military and civilian environments.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE THAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THE POSITION YOU SEEK: Education: Military – Instructed US Army and Foreign soldiers in subjects applicable to maintenance of Air Defense Missile systems; Chief Instructor, Air Defense Basic Combat Training — directing/supervising more than 125-Instructor enlisted personnel; developing training schedules from Army Training doctrine. Civilian: EPISD Hospital class — instructed all subjects (except lab classes) in grades 6 – 12, enrolled students into EPISD from West Texas and Southern New Mexico while at hospital;High School Resource -classes — Reading/Writing, General MAth, Algerbra I, Economics, US History, World History; Geogr-aphy, Enlish I, and Government. At Hospital Class, was a member of the student’s treatment team; at the school setting, was a member of the student’s Admission, Review, & Discharge (ARD) team. As an in-school Admin – Intern handled attendance, athletic events, bus/transportation needs, and in-school suspension.

Other areas: Handled/was responsible for: Auction of Stateexcessproperty; maintaining property book(s); purchasing (burying) (State contract, Local, HUB’s, open-market); Large Warehouse management,developing bids for contracts and purchases, audits/inventory; operating re-cycling program, developing, defending , (info to LBB [Legislative Budget Board])and managing a multi-million dollar budget. Human Resources: Developing position descriptions, monitoring discipline requirements, handling payroll & payroll taxes, andemployee supervision.

General Management areas: Fire and Safety Officer — Life Safety Code, handling 503 RehabAct requirements, Workers’ Comp Coordinator, Development of Policy and Procedure Manuals, Security Management, Vehicle Fleet Management, and Disaster Preparedness Coordinator.

IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REVOKE ONE ACTION TAKEN BY THE EPISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES IMMEDIATELY UPON TAKING OFFICE, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE? I have no pre-determined desires to revoke anything… I must firstinvestigate, evaluate, and come to a consensus…

DESCRIBE A MOMENT THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE: Becoming a father!

IN WHAT WAYS IS EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE RIGHT TRACK, AND IN WHAT WAYS DOES IT NEED TO CHANGE COURSE? I don’t believe the current school board situation will allow any ‘right track’ consideration for the district… A new board needs to be elected to follow the lead that will be established by TEA… Then through a collective endeavor with TEA and the new board; and, through ‘compliance, et al ‘ change will come.

IF ELECTED, HOW WILL YOU BALANCE THE NEEDS OF FAMILY, YOUR CAREER AND YOUR OFFICE? I have retired from the career arena and I have plenty of time to give back to the community.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU COME TO EL PASO (IF APPLICABLE)? I came to El Paso as a soldier assigned to Fort Bliss in 1957.
