Birthday party ends in gunfire, Las Cruces Police say
Las Cruces Police arrested a man they suspect of discharging a handgun after being asked to leave a birthday party early Sunday morning.
Daniel Golden, 26, of the 3900 block of Calle de Las Margaritas in Mesilla Park, is charged with one count each of negligent use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
At around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, Las Cruces Police were called to the report of shots fired during a birthday party at 623 S. San Pedro St . No injuries were reported but officers learned that the suspect, identified as Golden, fired at least three rounds into the air prior to leaving the party.
Detectives learned that Golden was upset because someone changed the music he was playing at the party. He became agitated and was asked to leave the residence. As he began to leave, Golden pulled out a 9 mm handgun and fired several shots into the air.
Golden was located by officers and taken into custody. Because he violated terms of his probation, Golden is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
