Deputies kill mountain lion in southern New Mexico

Sheriff’s deputies in southern New Mexico have shot and killed a mountain lion that tried to attack a woman who was getting in her vehicle.

Otero County sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Tarantino says the animal had been pacing along a residential fence in Chaparral last week and hiding underneath a trailer.

He tells the Alamogordo Daily News (http://bit.ly/LoA5rR) that deputies shot the animal after contacting the state Department of Game and Fish.

Tarantino says the young, female mountain lion likely was driven out of the mountains by older, mature animals.
