Teen, 14, accidentally shot

A 14-year-old female was accidentally shot by a 15-year-old male late Friday evening, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 10 p.m., the female was shot on the 18900 block of George Strait in Tornillo, Texas, police said.

Police said the girl was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to her chest.

She is now in stable condition.

According to police, a group of juveniles were together in a backyard. The gun, a .22 caliber rifle, was brought to the yard by the 15-year-old male, police said.

The male reportedly took the rifle from his parents’ safe without permission, officials said. He was charged with aggravated assault.

The minors were released to responsible adults, and the weapon was recovered by sheriff’s deputies.
