Update: Man killed in Transmountain motorcycle accident identified

Aug. 13, 2012 Update: The driver of the motorcycle was identified as David Mulno of Tewksbury Massachusetts. Mulno was wearing a motorcycle helmet and protective jacket prior to being thrown off his motorcycle after failing to negotiate a curve, according to El Paso County Sheriff’s officials.

Aug. 12, 2012 story:

Part of Trans Mountain Road has been closed due to a fatal motorcycle accident, officials confirmed Sunday morning.

The accident occurred at 8:55 a.m., and left a 23-year-old male motorcyclist dead, said Deputy Angelica Becerra, spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Becerra confirmed the westbound lanes of Trans Mountain Road are closed, and will remain closed for several hours. The actual wreck took place roughly a mile west of US 54 on Trans Mountain Road.

Sheriff’s deputies were on scene investigating the crash, but the identity of the man was not immediately available.

Officials said speed may have been a factor in the accident.
