El Paso Police release identity of man in alleged kidnapping

The El Paso Police Department has released the name of the 34-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped a toddler and threatened two men with a knife.

Rolando Pacheco, of the 4500 block of Bobolink, has been charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Aug. 16, Pacheco allegedly went into a yard on the 4500 block of Skylark and took a 1-and-a-half-year-old girl from the yard and ran toward a nearby canal with the girl in his arms.

As the witnesses and siblings of the child gave chase Pacheco ran into the canal with the child and released her into the water, according to police.

A sibling was able to rescue the child while the workers subdued Pacheco until police could arrive.

Police said that prior to the abduction Pacheco had threatened two of the workers with a knife as he passed them while they were working in the area. No injuries were reported and the child was reunited with her parents at the scene. Pacheco has been booked into the El Paso County Detention on a bond totaling $150,000.
