Update: El Paso Fire Dept. says concrete sealer spill in Northeast has been cleaned up
An El Paso Police officer was taken to hospital after getting sick Tuesday morning while working a hazardous material situation in Northeast El Paso.
The El Paso Fire Dept. Says the officer is expected to be OK.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Emergency personnel responded to Dyer, near Sunrise Center, where a 55-gallon drum was in the middle of the street.
Once there, the officer noticed a substance in it, so he called for back up and the area was blocked off.
The officer became lightheaded and was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center.
The HazMat unit moved in, secured the area, and determined the drum was filled with concrete sealant.
The HazMat team placed the drum in a larger container so that it could be properly disposed of. Viva Environmental, Inc. was called to the scene to dispose of the drum. No other injuries or medical complaints were reported.
At this time, it is unknown who this drum of concrete sealant belongs to.
