Sunland Park council approves to accept a petition for annex
santa del sol is an area located near the intersection of mcnutt and country club road. a developer wants to build homes on about 230 acres of land. but some santa teresa residents are concerned about future developments encroaching on their private roads. abc-7’s jerry najera was at the council meeting he has the story jerry? rick it may all sound complicated but its pretty simple. a land owner asked for these areas of land to be annexed by sunland park. you can see them here in the map- they are highlighted in purple and yellow. the owner sent a petition to council members and council members voted to accept it. this doesn’t mean it’s approved. the vote pretty much says we are accepting the future developers information- we’re going to take a look at it and we’ll also send this to county officials for review. but a santa teresa resident is saying a map given to the council and the public is incorrect and makes the petion invalid. kriag carpenter a santa teresa resident is saying sunland park cannot annex areas of land in chunks. it has to be in one piece or connected. “nothing changes in sunland park, you know it, they know the law their attorneys are telling them it’s wrong it doesn’t matter they’re doing it anyway.” what it comes down to is-if the city wants to annex the land as a whole it would have to include country club road in santa teresa which is a private road. some residents don’t want that private road for public use. rick estela. our new mexico mobile newsroom is learning more about the whistleblower
