Chihuahuas top Sacramento 8-3 as Dickerson’s hitting streak moves to 29 games

EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Sacramento River Cats 8-3 Tuesday and have now won seven of their last nine games. Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs in six innings in his third win of the season.

The game was tied 2-2 when the Chihuahuas rallied for four runs in the sixth inning on Hunter Renfroe’s RBI double and Jose Pirela’s first Chihuahuas’ home run, a three-run shot off the center field batter’s eye.

For the second time in four games, Alex Dickerson waited until the eighth inning to continue his hitting streak. Dickerson was hitless through his first three plate appearances Tuesday, despite driving two line drives to center field, both of which were caught. He tapped a ball on the grass in between home plate and the pitcher’s mound in the eighth and arrived at first base at the same time as pitcher Braulio Lara’s low and errant throw. The official scorer ruled it an infield hit to extend Dickerson’s hitting streak to 29 games.

Ryan Schimpf went 1-for-3 with a long home run onto the street behind the right field fence, his third homer in the last two games. Manuel Margot had three hits atop El Paso’s order for the second consecutive game.
