County residents concerned about fireworks

despite the planned closure of some streets, many montana vista residents are not looking forward to fireworks being legal for the first time in five years. commissioners court voted yesterday to put up unmanned barricades on the 4th on flager, krag, vista del este and buntline streets. abc-7’s darren hunt spoke to residents there today … rick/estela, even though the fire danger is lower this year, residents are dreading what is always a massive cleanup after fireworks. “one word comes to mind i horrible.” sal holgui has lived in montana vista for more than a decade. so he remembers what it was like the last time fireworks were allowed on the fourth. “unfortunately some people just don’t care because they don’t live here and they leave their trash, they don’t even put it in a bag, they just litter it.” “so you remember what it wa like when they had fireworks?” “yes i do remember, every yea the whole montana street would get full of cars.” amelia maldonado lives off of krag in montana vista. “are you concerned what it migh be like out here this weekend?” “i am because of the dried brus that’s across the street from us.” “it gets pretty hectic, it gets crowded everywhere, like people setting up camp anywhere and just letting fireworks go, traffic is ridiculous.” sergi valadez also lives off of krag. “we’ve seen it where everybod just packs up and leaves, all the trash is there, and of course, being out in here in the desert, it just blows off into the desert making a mess.” this is video of the aftermath in the area five years ago. and even though it’s a mess, valadez still wants people to come have fun. “they are taking a chance b letting us do it and its just like everything else, just show some respect, obey all the laws, and lets just have some fun, that’s what its all about.” “what would you say to th people that are coming out here on this weekend or on monday, what would you tell them?” “if i could talk to them, i would say please, since you are able to do this, which is a privilege, pick up your trash and take it with you, that’s it.” “that’s all your asking?” “that’s all i’m asking. when we approached fireworks stands on montana today … we were handed this flier from the far east montana business were handed this flier from the far east montana business association. they are hoping to capitalize and possibly help control the situation … by charging five bucks to shoot fireworks in their parking lots. rick/estela. another live look at the city tonight from the abc-seven mountain cam. you can see
