build the northgate transfer center and parking garage in northeast el paso. the multi-million dollar project will be located on diana street, just past dyer. the center will also include a neighboring two- story parking garage. it will also be a terminal for sun metro’s rapid transit system, brio. gfx the transfer center will also include restaurants, shops, and a plaza. in 2011– the city spent 10-million to buy the land and demolish the mall. abc-7’s stephanie guadian is live with what happens next … stephanie. the city is awarding dantex construction company a contract totaling about 10 and a half million dollars. the city was approved for federal funding to build the terminal– and most of the cost will be covered by grants. the city’s financial portion will be some $2 million. dan-tex will build the transit center, parking deck and office spaces. the idea is for people to park and ride sun metro to other parts of the city. hunt metro 31, a sub-sidiary of hunt communities, will lease 31 acres next to the transfer center – to develop a smart code community with shops, restaurants, lofts, apartments and a park. jay banasiak sun metro director: the transit center we have there now is really small and has outgrown its useful life. so, this is perfect to get grant money to build a bigger transit center. the second thing is to try and develop that northgate area which has been a delapidated mall for years, and years and years. we torn that thing down years ago, and now we are finally going to build something there . phase one will reconstruct wren avenue eastward from dyer street. it will include sidewalks, landscaping, a median and pedestrian lighting. wren avenue should be done by the end of the year. the transit center is expected to opn in about a year. rick and estela– back to you. a new way to beat the heat is one step closer to cooling off the borderland. today, el paso
