Alamogordo police arrest shooting suspect

Police arrested and charged the man suspected of being involved in a shooting on the 1800 block of Yucca Avenue Wednesday.

Joshua Diaz, 23, is charged with Aggravated Battery Resulting in Great Bodily Harm, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Concealing Identity.

Police responding to a ‘shots fired’ call at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday found a wounded man inside the home on Yucca Avenue. The man was shot several times and had to be flown to UMC in El Paso, police said.

Investigators identified Diaz as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on July 21, 2016, Otero County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on US Highway 54/70.

Diaz, the driver, allegedly provided a false name. Diaz was taken into custody and booked into the Otero County Detention Center in lieu of a $51,000.00 bond.
