Amusan Nabs Fifth Place In 100m Hurdles At World U20 Championships

Rising UTEP sophomore Tobi Amusan recorded a fifth-place finish in the finals of the 100m hurdles at the World U20 Championships Sunday . She crossed the line in her best time (12.95) in three races at the prestigious event but it wasn’t enough to reach the podium.

Elvira Herman (12.85-BLR) took home the gold while Rushelle Burton (12.87-JAM) and Tia Jones (12.89-USA) finished with the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Alexis Duncan (12.93-USA) claimed fourth.

Rounding out the field were Alicia Barrett (13.15-GBR), Taylon Bieldt (13.37-RSA) and Laura Valette (13.42-FRA).

The experience will be of tremendous benefit to Amusan, who will now turn her attention to preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games. She will represent Nigeria in the 100m hurdles, and possibly have a leg on the 4x100m relay, in Rio de Janeiro from Aug. 12-21.
