Gabby Douglas to be coached by Eastwood H.S. alum at Olympics

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso native Christian Gallardo will coach Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas during the Rio Games, according to nbcolympics.com.

Gallardo attended Eastwood High School, where he competed as a Level 10 gymnast.

He has coached Douglas for a couple years out of their home gym, Buckeye Gymnastics in Ohio.

However, during the July Olympic Trials, Douglas made him her primary coach on the floor.

In Rio, gymnasts will only be allowed to have one coach accompany them on the floor. According to NBC Sports, that coach will be Gallardo due to the chemistry he shares with Douglas and his ability to spot her.

Prior to his time at Buckeye Gymnastics, Gallardo coached both girls and boys at Gymnastics Elite Youth Sports and The American Dream in El Paso.
