taking you outside with a live look from the abc-7 weather deck camera in west el paso this morning. you can see the sun barely peeking over the mountains… and lots of cloud coverage. a cooler start to the morning after some showers in the area yesterday. the rain chances are here to stay this week. we have the details in just a bit but first– a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. very moist unstable air will flow into new mexico and west texas while weak upper disturbances and surface boundaries move into the region. this weather pattern will generate widespread shower and thunderstorm activity through much of the seven day forecast period. locally heavy rains are expected with flooding possible over a few areas. happening today— delta airlines is planning on issuing refunds and travel vouchers to the thousands of people affected by yesterday’s problems. the company canceled more than 700- flights on monday after a computer system crashed. the airline posted an apology video on its website — and is still urging passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport — because already, there have been hundreds of cancellations and delays today. abc-7 has made it easier for you— just head over to our website kvia.com and click on the airport flight information at the bottom of our homepage. happening today– a committee tasked to craft the el paso independent school district’s latest bond proposal is expected to go before board of trustees. it present the largest proposal in the city’s history. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live … denise? coronado high is one of the schools proposed to be completely rebuilt. today the board of trustees will learn everything that is included in the more than 668 million dollars bond. if they have no objections to the bond then come november– voters will go to the polls to vote on it. the district reports a loss of five- thousand students a year. each taking with them– about 6- thousand dollars in state and federal money. that’s a loss of about 30-million dollars by the year 20-21…. and 25- thousand fewer students. the number continuing to drop the following year. the facilities advisory committee is made up of 80 people. they had to decide which projects would move forward. the committee included parents, grandparents, military members and students. zach lyons– who sat on the committee says this will mean a tax increase: “yes it’s a partial increase an nobody want to pay more.but look at what you’re getting, what your kids are getting, what your grandkids are getting, and what future generations are getting, and what the business district in the city is going to get out of this. it’s kind of reminiscent of the city bonds. where do we want to go as a community?” coming we’ll take a look at the projects included in the bond proposal. to round the clock coverage… one man is behind bars this morning after a swat situation involving children. this happened on the 700 block of pendale around 8 p-m last night. you can see police were blocking access to nearby streets. police say it started as a family violence call between a husband and wife… and they were able to evacuate the wife. afterwards, police say the man barricaded himself in the home and refused to co- operate. two hours into the swat situation, police arrested the man on assault family violence charges. police say there were two children in the home, but they are safe. police also said one person was injured but did not say who or the extent of their injuries. happening today— the murder trial continues for adrian garcia. . police say he killed his girlfriend back in 20-13. garcias could face up to 99 years in prison if convicted. police say garcia — 18 at the time — allegedly strangled 15-year-old alejandra arango. photos of the victim’s body in the bathtub and during autopsy were shown several times to the jury on monday but garcia never glanced at the photos. his defense is working to discredit the autopsy report. abc-7 will be in the courtroom today the rider of a motorcycle that crashed in west el paso has been identified. police say 31-year- old gabriel schaffino was speeding before he lost control and crashed around 7pm on the 56-hundred block of mesa. schaffino was taken to u-m-c with life- threatening injuries. police say a 24- year-old marlene be-doya was also riding with him — but didn’t suffer serious injuries. neither of the riders were wearing helmets. now to another abc-7 update— the waterpark in kansas city,kansas will remain closed today after a 10- year-old boy died on a waterslide over the weekend. police say caleb schwab died of a neck injury at the schlitterbahn waterpark. caleb was the son of a kansas state legislator. new this morning— the parents of two americans killed back in 20-12 in the attack in benghazi are suing presidential nominee hillary clinton– they say her quote “extreme carelessness” led t their deaths. the parents of sean smith and tyrone woods filed the suit yesterday. they are seeking damages for wrongful death, defamation, the intentional infliction of emotional distress and more. clinton was questioned last fall for nearly 8- hours from the republican house committee over her handling of the benghazi attack. the report by the committee found no wrong doing by the former secretary of state. over on the g-o-p side.. donald trump gave a major speech on the economy monday… staying on message… and remaing mostly calm, even when protesters interrupted him. some might call it a more disciplined donald trump.. the g-o-p candidate was on his best behavior while speaking at the detroit economic club yesterday. we have more about trump’s attitude change coming up in little later— on gmep. / 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… very moist unstable air will flow into new mexico and west texas while weak upper disturbances and surface boundaries move into the region. this weather pattern will generate widespread shower and thunderstorm activity through much of the seven day forecast period. locally heavy rains are expected with flooding possible over a few areas. …abc-7 traffic track … now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… we still have much more to come here on gmep—- stormtracker —nichole gomez has a special guest with her this morning we still have much more to come here on gmep– stormtracker —nichole gomez has a special guest with her this morning talking weather .. / and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
