UPDATE: Las Cruces police arrest man accused of beating, urinating on ex-wife
Police arrested a man accused of urinating on his ex-wife before attempting to strangle her.
Following an alleged attack about 2 a.m. Friday at the woman’s apartment, the Doa Ana County Magistrate Court issued an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Jeffery P. Halona. His ex-wife allowed him to stay a few days before asking him to leave, police said, adding that the two had been divorced since 2014.
Halona, police said in a news release, begged his ex-wife, who agreed to let him return. Police said both drank alcohol and played video games up until midnight when she went to sleep.
The woman told detectives she woke up to find Halona urinating on her. She also said Halona then tried to strangle her, allegedly causing her to nearly lose consciousness. She eventually got away and called 911 from a neighbor’s home on the 1600 block of S. Telshor Boulevard, police said.
Halona allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. Halona was arrested Monday evening and booked into the Doa Ana County Detention Center, where he’s being held on a cash bond set at $20,000.
Halona is charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm; battery against a household member; and interference with communications for allegedly throwing the woman’s two cellphones off a balcony.
