Man goes on beer run while driving stolen car, LCPD say
Police officers arrested a man suspected of stealing been and driving a stolen vehicle Wednesday night.
23-year-old Margarito Dago Serena III, of the 1000 block of Ash Avenue, is charged with one fourth-degree felony count of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and one misdemeanor count of shoplifting less than $100.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, police learned a man driving a gray Ford Mustang stole an 18-pack of beer from the Giant convenience store at 2210 E. Lohman Avenue.
Nearly three hours later, an LCPD officer spotted the vehicle parked at a gas station on El Paseo Drive. The officer noticed the driver appeared to be having car trouble.
While speaking with the driver, the officer received an alert the Ford Mustang had been reported stolen August 10, 2016 from a parking lot at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. The officer allegedly noticed an 18-pack of beer in the vehicle.
Serena was identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle and the man who stole beer earlier that night, police said. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
