Sex offender who escaped from New Mexico jail captured in El Paso

Authorities say a prisoner who escaped from a New Mexico county jail has been recaptured in El Paso.

The New Mexico State Police says Joshua Mirka was apprehended Tuesday morning by Texas Rangers and local police.

Details on the recapture weren’t immediately released.

Mirka escaped Monday evening from the Luna County Detention Center in Deming, New Mexico, which is 80 miles northwest of El Paso.

A State Police spokesman says Mirka had been arrested July 27 on a warrant for alleged probation and parole violations for failing to register as a sex offender.
