Mayors of Las Cruces, El Paso enter friendly wager ahead of Battle of I-10
Ahead of the Battle of I-10 on Sept. 22, Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima is challenging El Paso Mayor Dee Margo to a friendly bet.
“The winner, or I should say the loser, would have to wear the winner’s team jersey at a council meeting,” Miyagishima told ABC-7. “I think he’ll look great. We’ll go ahead and start ordering the shirt right now.”
Margo accepted the terms of the wager, with a condition.
“You’ve got to give me the spread. His response was, ‘No, we’re doing this even,'” Margo said in a phone conversation with ABC-7. “And I said, ‘You’re supposed to be confident. You’re the winner. You’re the one confident in your team. So he gave me a whopping 2.75 points. I don’t even know what the actual spread is, but I said I’ll take whatever I get.”
The match-up has actually been referred to as a “pillow fight,” with the teams ranking near the bottom of college football lists.
Both teams are winless to start the season.
The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Sun Bowl.
