The Times reported that the Army is placing security risks on some recruits in its Military Accessions Vital to National Interests Program, or MAVNI.

But some recruits claim that what the Army deems a “security risk” is actually an aspect of normal immigrant life, such as sending money home to their families.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Defense denies that the Army is using the legal reviews to expel recruits.
