Thursday night football: Montwood falls at Odessa, Las Cruces beats Gadsden
Montwood 0, Odessa 27 Final
The Rams suffered their second loss in a row after falling on the road at Odessa. The two teams were scoreless after the first quarter, but the Bronchos found the end zone twice in the second to open up a 13-0 lead at the half. They then pulled away in the second half for a convincing 27-0 win, boosting their record to 3-1. The Rams are now 2-2 on the season with wins over Los Fresnos and Eastlake and losses to Odessa and Midland Lee. The Rams will next play at Eastwood on Friday, Sept. 28.
Gadsden 0, Las Cruces 42 Final
The Las Cruces Bulldawgs have now won back-to-back games after a 1-2 start to the season. Las Cruces and Gadsden met at the Field of Dreams in the district opener for both teams, but it was all Bulldawgs from the start. Chase Chaloupek scored two of his three rushing touchdowns in the first half to help Las Cruces open up a 28-0 lead at the break. Johnny Terrazas added a pair of scores himself as the Bulldawgs began district play on the right foot. Gadsden fell to 1-4 and has a bye week next week to regroup. The Bulldawgs will next meet Hobbs on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Field of Dreams at 1 p.m.
