Man, woman in custody after standoff

A man and woman are in custody after an alleged hostage situation in Alamogordo.

That’s according to the Alamogordo Daily News.

The Alamogordo newspaper also reported that the situation started with a fight at a house between the man and woman. The man then left the scene, prompting a chase involving Border Patrol.

ABC-7 learned that man who had been involved in a chase and a woman barricaded themselves inside a trailer home on the 1000 block of Post Avenue.

Alamogordo Police Chief Brian Peete said the SWAT teams from the Las Cruces Police Department and New Mexico State Police were called to the scene because authorities believe the pair was armed.

Residents in the neighborhood told ABC-7 they heard shots being fired around 2 p.m., but Peete said that was the sound of two flash bangs that were deployed during the incident.

“(It was) as peaceful as we can get,” Peete told ABC-7. “No one was hurt. No one was shot. No shots were fired by the police. No shots were fired by the suspect. Fortunately, everything turned out well.”

The man and woman have not been identified to the media at this time.

New Mexico State Police and Alamogordo police are still investigating.
