Three charged in Alamogordo in aftermath of 5 hour standoff with police

Alamogordo police have arrested three people in connection to a standoff that took place Monday afternoon, after police learned one of the suspects was in possession of a firearm.

38 year-old Jennifer Gonzales, 45 year-old Jennifer Grah, and 23 year-old William Vaughn were arrested and face different charges following the incident that required Alamogordo police and the New Mexico State Police Tactical Team to be summoned to assist in apprehending one of the armed suspects.

On September 24th, an Animal Control Officer with the city of Alamogordo had witnessed a physical altercation between a male and a female inside a parked vehicle in a desert area west of Collins Avenue. Upon arriving to the scene, police learned the vehicle was no longer in the area and was speeding away.

An Agent with the U.S. Border Patrol was soon able to locate the vehicle and attempted to make contact, at which point the female and male fled from the vehicle and entered multiple trailers on a property at the 1000 block of Post Avenue.

Officers were able to establish communication and compliance from four subjects within one of the trailers. Additionally, police attempted to communicate with the female suspect, who had ran into a travel trailer.

Further investigation revealed that the female suspect, identified as Jennifer Gonzales, was in possession of a firearm and threatened another suspect with the weapon. Attempts by police to talk Gonzales into exiting the trailer had failed.

After the New Mexico State Police Tactical Team was summoned for assistance, police were able to obtain a search warrant for the property, as well as an arrest warrant for Gonzales. Gonzales would spend over 5 hours barricaded inside the trailer, before surrendering to police.

Jennifer Gonzales has since being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as negligent use of a deadly weapon. In addition, she was served a Bernalillo County Metro Arrest Warrant for failure to appear on traffic offenses.

Furthermore, Jennifer Grah was arrested on Otero County Magistrate Court Warrants for failure to appear and a District Court Warrant for failure to appear. William Vaughn was also arrested on two Otero County Magistrate Court Warrants for failure to appear and failure to pay fines, as well as added charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

All three suspects have been incarcerated at Otero County Detention Center.
