New plans ready for takeoff at El Paso Airport
More air traffic will be hitting the skies over El Paso, according to city officials.
Currently, El Paso International Airport is home to six different airlines flying to 13 different cities with 15 nonstop routes.
City officials tell ABC-7 that tomorrow the 16th and 17th nonstop routes will be added.
The most recent airport operation report shows about a 15 percent increase in travelers from July 2017, coming out to more than 315,000 passengers.
The same trend for freight cargo: an increase of nearly 16 percent.
Reviewing the 10-year passenger statistics, the amount of travelers took a dive, but started to lift off again in 2014.
Dallas, Houston and Phoenix have the most direct flight per week, and many of the flights are on Southwest.
The airline accounts for nearly 45 percent of all flights.
City representatives planned a news conference at at 8:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
