El Paso student finalist in Dr. Pepper free tuition competition
One El Paso student is several football-throws away from potentially getting her college paid for.
Jordan Alarcon is a Montwood High School graduate and student at UTEP. The 20-year-old is now a finalist in Dr. Pepper’s Tuition Giveaway contest.
“I want to encourage women to know their value,” reads Alarcon’s bio on the contest website. She entered the competition through a video on YouTube detailing her goal to become the first woman in her family to receive a college degree.
Alarcon is studying communication and is hoping the $100,000 grand prize will help her transfer to a top communication school in the U.S.
She, along with other finalists from around the country, will compete in the Big 10 College Championship Game on Saturday. To win, she has to throw the most number of footballs through a Dr. Pepper hole in 30 seconds.
