Chihuahuas add El Paso native Fernando Rodriguez to roster

For the first time in franchise history, the El Paso Chihuahuas have a native El Pasoan on their roster.

Right-handed relief pitcher Fernando Rodriguez was transferred from Extended Spring Training to El Paso on Tuesday.

Rodriguez played high school baseball at Franklin and then went on to play at EPCC as well.

The 34-year-old pitcher has appeared in 216 games at the Major League level, according to stats provided by ESPN.

He’s played for the Angels, Astros, and Athletics in his MLB career and has recorded a total of 231.2 innings pitched with 242 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.35.

He last appeared at baseball’s highest level in 2016 with Oakland.

We’ll see if Rodriguez can help the Chihuahuas get back on track after a 1-4 start to the season.

The Chihuahuas will begin a new series at Tacoma Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. MT.
