El Paso Congresswoman calls on federal investigation after migrants flown to California

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- El Paso Democratic Congresswoman Veronica Escobar wants a federal investigation to occur after migrants were flown to California.

The migrants reportedly crossed into the United States through El Paso.

Shortly after, they were approached by people who offered them jobs and migrant support. Once in California, the migrants were dropped off outside a church.

The group of migrants were flown out on Friday and Monday. They were taken to Deming, New Mexico and then flown to Sacramento on private planes.

According to Florida officials, the migrants did so willingly and weren't coerced.

Rep. Escobar said this is a political stunt by Florida politicians.

"I think what the Florida governor is doing is an outrage. He is using vulnerable human beings as a political pawn, and he is using the hard-earned dollars of Floridian tax payers in order to do that and the whole point is to further his campaign for president," she said.

She also said she wants migrants who are seeking asylum in the United States to be protected.

"I do think the Department of Justice needs to investigate what the governor has done and what all the parties involved in these luring and trafficking of human beings," she said.

Meanwhile, Florida officials insists the migrants went on the trips willingly and weren't coerced.
