12-foot-tall puppet “Little Amal” visits El Paso Healing Garden, spreads hope

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A young girl on a big journey. People across the Borderland gathered to welcome "Little Amal" to El Paso Wednesday.

Amal is a 12-foot puppet on a mission to spread unity. The depiction of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl serves as a global symbol of human rights.

After her 6,000 mile journey across the U.S. it brought her to the Healing Garden, where she paid tribute to the 23 that lost their lives during the Aug. 3 mass shooting.

She helped light an 8 foot tall sculpture made by Creative Kids, an organization who works with the families directly affected by the shooting.

The mission behind their walk is to carry a message of hope for displaced people everywhere, especially children who have been separated from their families.

Amal is expected to be in El Paso Oct. 25-26. For more information on the upcoming events, click here.
