Man arrested for DWI in West El Paso Whataburger drive-thru

Update: Police say one person died in the shooting. Police officials identified the man who died in the shooting as 37-year-old Edgar Gabriel Lucero.

Update (October 7, 2024): El Paso Police arrested Hector Manuel Lopez Jr. for DWI while on the scene of the shooting. Officers discovered Lopez was allegedly drunk in the Whataburger drive-thru. The shooting is still under investigation.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - El Paso Police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to an area hospital with serious injuries just before midnight Friday.

Officers were called out to a shooting at a Whataburger restaurant on the 600 block of Sunland Park in west El Paso.

Crimes Against Person detectives are currently investigating the events that led to the shooting.

Witnesses at the scene tell KVIA that an argument at the restaurant escalated and shots were fired.
