El Paso International Airport adds new direct flights to Austin
EL PASO, Texas -- The time between El Paso and Austin just got a lot shorter.
American Airlines on Thursday announced new direct flights from the Sun City to Texas' capital city starting in September.
There will be one direct flight per day in September, up to two in October and three in November.
Southwest Airlines traditionally offered a non-stop flight to Austin, but the company has not announced plans to resume that service yet. It had ceased flying that route during the pandemic.
Meantime, El Paso International Airport says passenger traffic numbers in April, the latest month for which data is available, were up 600% from a year ago.
