El Paso City Council to update city’s non-discrimination policy

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso City officials will work to update the city's non-discrimination policy Wednesday after voting Tuesday 6 to 2 to create a new non-discrimination ordinance.

The new ordinance specifically mentions that the city will not discriminate based on race, sexual orientation, reproductive health actions and hairstyle or texture.

Representative Henry Rivera, who co-sponsored the item, said that even if the city hasn't had a specific case regarding such instances, he believes it's important to update its policies.

The city already had a no-tolerance policy on discrimination.
