EPISD explores returning to “traditional” calendar, asks for parents’ opinions

EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso Independent School District is asking for feedback from parents about whether to bring back the "traditional" school calendar.

Earlier this month, the EPISD Community Engagement Department sent an email to parents asking for them to vote on whether to return to the traditional calendar, or continue with the intersession calendar.

Currently, students are given two weeks off in March and October.

The current school calendar also starts close to the beginning of August and ends in early June.

The proposed 'traditional' calendar would eliminate October break and reduce March break to one week. This will cause summer to extend so school would be ending before Memorial Day and would begin in mid-August.

District parents have until Oct. 28 to submit their responses.
