San Elizario family loses 11-month-old daughter in fire; father still fighting to survive

SAN ELIZARIO, Texas (KVIA) -- A GoFundMe had been set up to assist the family of Marcos Martinez after his 11-month old child was killed in a mobile home fire on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

As of the morning of Wedneday, December 20th, donations are above $32,000, exceeding the $25,000 goal.

The donation site states 725 people have already assisted the San Elizario family.

ABC-7 learned that that 11-month old Marlene was killed in the flames. Her father tried multiple times to go into the home and rescue her. He suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation in the process. Crews rushed Martinez to the Lubbock Burn Center where he remains in critical condition.

ABC-7 has reached out to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office for any new information regarding the investigation into Sunday's deadly fire.

Marlene's mother, Jackie Ponce, and her twin sister Arlene, both survived the fire.
