Well-Known El Paso Businessman Billy Abraham Arrested On Assault Charge

Well-known El Paso businessman William “Billy” D. Abraham was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 22, stemming from an alleged assault in June.

He was released from jail about two hours after being arrested.

According to the complaint affidavit, Abraham had finished his meal at the Tap Lounge in Downtown and walked away from the table. A female employee of the Tap, the complaining witness in the affidavit, then cleaned up the area Abraham had eaten when Abraham returned. Abraham claimed he was not done and allegedly verbally abused the employee.

Abraham then allegedly grabbed the employee by the upper arm areas and applied pressure that caused pain before pushing the employee up against a wall causing her to strike the wall with the back of her head and back, causing more pain. The affidavit states the two have known each other for six years.

Abraham has been charged with class A assault.

Abraham has had other legal issues in recent months. In July, he was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run. Read about that alleged incident clickabletext here.

Abraham is a trustee for the Franklin Group, a real estate company. In 2006, Billy Abraham had a bitter dispute with the city over several properties the city deemed unsafe, among them, the historic A.B. Fall Mansion, which the city took over through eminent domain.

During the dispute, Billy Abraham told ABC-7 he had invested in the core of Downtown El Paso for 20 years.
