Group of teens charged in El Paso armed robbery that led to police shooting

Four El Paso teenagers are being charged in a weekend armed robbery of a 7-11 convenience store that resulted in a police officer shooting and wounding one of them, authorities said Wednesday.

17-year old Jorge Rangel is jailed on $200,000 bond, 17-year old Bianca Salazar is being held on $75,000 bond and 19-year old Edwin Rodriguez has bond set at $25,000. All face a charge of aggravated robbery and had their mugshots released Wednesday by authorities.

The fourth teen, 17-year old Andres Adan Fernandez remains hospitalized after being shot by police; he will be booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility once he’s released from treatment.

Police said the four held-up the 7-11 located at 2000 N. Piedras late Saturday night and Fernandez was shot and wounded when he pointed a gun at an officer.

That officer, who has been on the force for nine months, is on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated — which is standard procedure when an officer is involved.
