HORIZON CITY, Texas – An infant injured earlier this week at a home near Horizon City suffered a gunshot wound from what was likely an "accidental shooting," sheriff's investigators said Saturday.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Ascension.

Deputies said the infant, whose age was not given, was hospitalized after being shot. No update on the baby's condition was provided.

The Sheriff's Office declined to provide details about how the infant was shot, saying the case was still under investigation. But officials indicated the circumstances made it a "probable accidental shooting."

Authorities also didn't indicate if any charges were possible even though the child's injury was believed to be an accident.
