Man’s body found in Lower Valley canal; 2nd victim in 2 days

EL PASO, Texas -- A man's body was found Wednesday morning in a Lower Valley canal near a wastewater treatment facility and close to the U.S.-Mexico border.

El Paso firefighters were initially dispatched about 6:40 a.m. on a water rescue, but a fire department spokesman later said the operation turned into a recovery.

The body discovery occurred at 10001 Southside Road, in a desert area nearby the Bustamante Wastewater Plant and along the El Paso-Socorro city limits.

Police identified the apparent drowning victim as a man in his 30's.

It was the second body to be pulled from a Borderland canal in two straight days. On Tuesday, a body was found in a Socorro canal near the Rio Bosque Wetlands area.
