Fire burns storefronts along Mesa Street in west El Paso

EL PASO, Texas -- Firefighters battled a blaze Saturday afternoon that burned several storefronts in a west El Paso shopping strip.

The fire broke out at 4026 N. Mesa Street around 1:45 p.m.

Around 40 firefighters responded and could be seen breaking down windows and prying doors open to extinguish the flames, which were finally put out about 2:15 p.m.

Damage could be seen at Echo outdoor power equipment, a bicycle repair shop and an empty shop with a 'for lease' sign on it.

There was no immediate word on a cause for the fire or a damage estimate.

One man suffered minor burns to his hands, but fire crews said there were no major injuries.
