El Paso college baseball star Ivan Melendez to be recognized by City Council

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso college baseball star Ivan Menendez is being recognized by the City Council Wednesday for his achievements at the University of Texas this season.

City representatives will vote on making the month of July 'Ivan Melendez month.'

Melendez was the first Texas Longhorn to win the Golden Spikes Award, which is awarded to the best player in college baseball.

Melendez led the nation with 32 home runs and 94 RBIs. He's projected to be a top 100 pick in the MLB draft.
