Doña Ana county to provide empty sandbags ahead of monsoon season

DOÑA ANA COUNTY, New Mexico -- The Office of Emergency Management is providing empty sandbags for the upcoming monsoon season.

Each household is allowed up to 25 empty bags. Households in flood-prone areas may receive 50 bags, according to OEM.

The county advises filling sandbags with clean sand or soil. They suggest using designated sand piles at or near County fire stations or from arroyos. Sand can also be purchased through landscaping and sand/gravel companies.

Empty bags are available at the following pick up locations and times:

  • Office of Emergency Management - Fri., July 8th 4 to 8 p.m. & Mon. July 11, 4 to 8 p.m.  1170 N. Solano Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88001
  • La Union (next to the fire station) Sat., July 16  from 3:30- 6:30 p.m.               350 Telles St.
  • Hatch Fire Department (by appt only) - 207 Franklin St, Hatch, NM 87937
  • Radium Springs Community Center - Mon.- Fri. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.           12060 Lindbeck Rd., Las Cruces, NM 88007
  • Doña Ana Fire Station - Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 601 E. Doña Ana School Rd., Doña Ana, NM 88032
  • Mesquite Community Resource Center- Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 129 Tawa Ave., Mesquite, NM 88048
  • Anthony Fire Station Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 1055 E. O’Hara Rd., Anthony, NM 88021
